Top Ten Tuesday : New to Me Authors I Read in 2018

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

Today’s prompt is for my top ten new to me authors I read in 2018! There were so many authors I found in 2018 and loved! A lot of them are books/authors I had been meaning to read for a while and I am so glad that I did!

In no particular order here are my top ten new to me authors I read in 2018:

Holly Black

The first book I read by Holly Black was The Cruel Prince when it released in January of 2018 and I have been obsessed with her writing ever since. I went out and bought a couple more of her books because I love her style so much, the beautiful worlds she created make me want to jump right into the page and join them!

Cassandra Clare

After seeing the hype for Queen of Air and Darkness I figured it was finally time to try out the Shadowhunter world, which is to say the least incredibly daunting since there are like 13 books, but I am so glad I decided to give her books a try! I am only 5 books in but I am loving it so much and need to get back to that world!

R.F. Kuang

If you have not read The Poppy War then you are definitely missing out! It was one of my best reads of 2018 and is honestly one of my favorite fantasy novels ever. I cannot wait for the sequel and to see what else she comes up with!

Laura Sebastian

Oh my god ASH PRINCESS! I read Ash Princess by Laura just this past fall and am OBSESSED. I cannot wait to get my hands on Lady Smoke and to see how she continues this series! Her writing style is beautiful and she has a way of keeping me guessing as to what will happen next!

Laini Taylor

Laini Laini Laini, what can I say. This is the marvelous author that wrote my BEST READ OF 2018 AND EVER. I absolutely love and adore Strange the Dreamer and I still think about it to this day. I am finally in the middle of Muse of Nightmares but I don’t want it to end!

Stephanie Garber

Caraval and Legendary are definitely not stories for everyone but I thought they were beautiful and fantastic. The world of Caraval is so magical and gorgeous and intriguing! I cannot wait for Finale to release so I can see how this series finishes!

Neal Shusterman

Oh my god have you read Scythe and Thunderhead?? Because these books were incredible and honestly I’m still angry about that cliff we’re hanging off of until the third book comes out!

Victoria Schwab

Victoria has written so many incredible books but I’ve only read A Darker Shade of Magic and City of Ghosts! I really need to finish the ADSOM series and start her other books because I absolutely loved how detailed and incredible the worlds she created are.

Angie Thomas

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas was one of my top 10 reads of 2018! It was so powerful and moving and I may have shed a tear or two even! I cannot wait for her next book On The Come Up!

Nadine Brandes

Last but not least is Nadine! I read Fawkes last year and thought it was amazing! And that’s honestly saying something because I do not normally reach for historical fiction but this one had some fantasy elements involved and an amazingly unique magic system! Her next book Romanov comes out soon and I hope to read it right away!

This was a fun Top Ten Tuesday! I enjoyed looking back on new to me authors I read last year! I hope to discover some new great ones this year as well.

  1. So many amazing authors here that I’d love to read works of too! I definitely have some VE Schwab lined up for this year, and the only problem is choosing which book to start with 😂 Love this list so much! Great post! ❤

    1. I hope you are able to read them! And definitely to Schwab, her books are phenomenal! If you haven’t read ADSOM I would definitely recommend to start there!

  2. Funny, I finally started city of bones by Cassandra Clare last night. I read the cruel prints, but I will give it another chance since I really didn’t like it as audiobook. In 2019, I started reading Stephanie Garber’s books and I’m planning on reading the poppy war. Yes, V. E. Schwab is also on my list! Funny how tastes differ, because I was not a fan of ash princess.

    1. I just started the Cassandra Clare books in November so I’m only 4 in and some are quite a bit too teenagery and angsty for me. The Poppy War is so good I really hope you enjoy it! I have books like that too that are really popular but I end up disliking, it is what it is though!

    1. It’s SO good. If you end up reading it I hope you end up loving it as much as I do! I really love finding new authors that become an auto buy!
