When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed…unless the trials kill her first.
One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable–until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire’s heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.
As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world–and of each other.
I… have so many feelings. I don’t even know where to begin or how to describe this masterpiece of a book that I just finished. I usually wait a day or two to write my reviews after finishing a book but this was SO good I just had to write it immediately. First and foremost, thank you to Sourcebooks Fire and Claire Legrand for this book. For writing and publishing this beautiful book that I know I will cherish for a very long time. You know when you just finished a book and all you can think is, wow? That’s how I feel right now. This is one of those special books that sticks with you long after finishing it.
I started Furyborn by reading the physical book, which is beyond gorgeous with an incredible cover and beautiful deckled pages! I ended up switching halfway through to the audiobook because work suddenly got very busy and I didn’t have enough time to read it as quickly as I wanted. I was happy to find the audiobook is AMAZING. If you don’t have the time to sit down and read an in depth 500 page book then I suggest listening to the audiobook! Please please please read this book!
The firs thing that truly drew me in to Furyborn is the absolute impeccable world building. This beautiful but cruel world Legrand created is one I can not get enough details of. I wish this book was another 500 pages so I could have gotten even more details. Hopefully Kingsbane will expand on Furyborn even more.
Another detail that draws you in the characters, oh my god are they incredible. Rielle is so powerful and beautiful and takes no shit from anyone, that need that kind of woman in my life. I really feel for her, she is so mistreated and misguided and I want nothing but the best for her. Audric, sweet sweet Audric is such a lovable teddy bear I couldn’t help but cherish him. There were times when I cried with him, and there were times when I cried for him. Elianna is another strong leading lady that I wanted to slap at times for her stubbornness but I also wanted to give her a hug because she just needs someone to love her. Which brings me to Simon and his utter cinnamon roll-ness, oh my goodness I think Simon might be my favorite character.
All of these characters combined made an impressive cast that truly made the book come to life. This book succeeded so well because I cared so much about what happened to my babies, I want to see no harm come to them. I don’t know what other kind words I can say to try and get you to read Furyborn. It made me feel, that is what is most important. It made me happy, it made me cry, it made my heart break, and I love it all the more for it. If any of my reviews have helped sway you to read a book, I hope it is this one.
Also, shameless promotion but I am still on the hunt for the Furyborn ARC with cover art. If you would like to help a girl complete her collection please hit me up, I would love to trade with you!
