down the TBR hole

Down the TBR hole #16

Down the TBR Hole was originally created by Lost In A Story (along with the pretty graphic!) The idea is to help slim down your Goodreads TBR, because we all know how large and endless that list becomes!

How it works:

→ Go to your Goodreads to be read shelf
→ Order on ascending date added
→ Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
→ Read the synopses of the books
→ Decide: keep it or should it go?

My 5 books:Photo_2019-03-13_07-20-18_PM.png

  1. Flame in the Mist : by Renee Ahdieh
    • Okay, okay. This is petty. BUT. I really want to read Flame in the Mist, I even own it.. but I almost don’t want to read it because I don’t like that they changed the cover and the second one doesn’t match now 😶 I will keep it on my TBR though, because I own it and I’m determined.
      • Judgement: KEEP
  2. The Red Pyramid : by Rick Riordan
    • Is it weird I feel like I’m too old for these books? I tried to read The Lightning Thief by Rick and I just, never got past it. He also has a million books and it’s very daunting and this one is like, somewhere in the middle and probably the only book by him I have on my TBR.
      • Judgement: GO
  3. A Reaper at the Gates : by Sabaa Tahir
    • I’m just not ready to have my heart broken by Sabba yet 😢
      • Judgement: KEEP
  4. Roar : by Cora Carmack
    • I own this one too and really want to read it! Especially before the sequel comes out in September!
      • Judgement: KEEP
  5. The Raven Boys : by Maggie Stiefvater
    • AHHH I just don’t know with this one! Some people love it to pieces and others think it is beyond terrible. I have especially heard bad things about book two and that makes me nervous. I think I’m going to let this one go, for now. Maybe in the future I’ll wind up reading it.
      • Judgement: GO

When I saw the 5 books I was to pass judgment on this week I initially thought I would end up keeping them all because they are all of the young adult fantasy realm which is my FAV. But, the more I thought about it the more right it felt to let go of The Red Pyramid and The Raven Boys. What do you think of my choices?

  1. I read the first few Red Pyramid books, I think you can safely move on from those. The Raven Boys are very divisive series. If you don’t respond to the writing style, I can see how they’d be very easy to hate. I personally really enjoyed the writing style and all four books, but they’re not for everyone!

    1. 😂😂 I think I’ve given up on Rick Riordan books. I feel like I would probably enjoy the writing style of The Raven Bous but I just don’t know, I’ve read so many negative reviews I don’t want to end up being let down.

  2. Honestly, The Red Pyramid is probably the most accessible series by Rick Riordan – it’s the only one that isn’t connected to everything else. But Rick’s books are all very similar, so if one doesn’t work for you it’s pretty likely none will.

I found the Raven Cycle okay. I enjoyed it, but it’s not my favourite.
