Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

I saw this tag from Jest and Hearts Library a while ago and wanted to give it a try. I didn’t have a post for today but also still wanted to post something so, this should definitely be interesting! If you want to see how Ainslee answered check it out here. Also give her a follow because she is my favorite.

A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE

I had to actually think about this one for a minute, and then I saw it on my bookshelf and realized I knew all along but didn’t want to admit it to myself. Lord of the Rings. Don’t @ me but good god I got through The Two Towers and I just could not. Loved The Hobbit though. And the movies are my favorite thing.

A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES EVERYONE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU

The only one I can think of is Children of Blood and Bone. I actually really liked this book and thought it had a lot of potential for future sequels. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the romance 😶 but now after all the drama surrounding it I don’t know yet if I will be continuing the series.

(this style of photo is SO old 🤣 I can’t help but chuckle. This was taken well over a year ago, and is probably the last time I took a picture of COBAB!)

A LOVE TRIANGLE WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER ENDED UP WITH THE PERSON YOU DIDN’T WANT THEM TO END UP WITH, OR AN OTP YOU DON’T LIKE

My answer for the love triangle not going in my favor is the same as Ainslee’s, and it involves a certain favorite villain of mine and I will never forgive Bardugo for this.

OTP I don’t like would be Manon and Dorian 😒 nope nope nope. They’re gross together. Everything felt forced and fake and I just cannot stand it.

A POPULAR BOOK GENRE YOU HARDLY REACH FOR

Contemporary AND Romance. I always end up leaving a very low and negative review. These HEA books drive me bonkers and give me crazy ideas of how things “should be”,  which is unhealthy for my well being. Also I tend to find them rather boring.

(This book is the reason I stopped reading contemporary romance)

A POPULAR OR BELOVED CHARACTER YOU DO NOT LIKE

Professor Severus Snape. There, I said it. People glorify him for his “noble deed” during The Deathly Hallows but all he ever did was stalk Lilly, and then make Harry’s life a living hell just because he was jealous James won Lilly’s heart.

A POPULAR AUTHOR YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET IN TO

Like, I hate saying this but it’s got to be Cassandra Clare. Which is a real issue because I own ALL of her books and have only read three of them. They are just SO DAMN angsty and childish and reminded me too much of Harry Potter weirdly. I don’t know. Maybe some day I’ll be able to truck through them all. I’ve heard TDA is much better.

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING

“I’m not like other girls” Bitch please, you’re just as bland as the rest of them. Also, INSTA LOVE. I JUST CANNOT. This is also why I don’t read contemporary romances.

A COMMON SERIES YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING

Ooh this is a tough one. I’m going to say the DC Icons series. I read Wonder Woman which was alright, and then read Batman Nightwalker which is to this day my lowest rating for a book ever because UGH GOD IT WAS TERRIBLE. I have no interest in continuing. Also, all this drama with Matt de la Pena? No thanks.

(do you know how far back I had to dig to find this photo 🤣 I took this well over a year ago and before I read Batman, never even read Catwoman. Also wow my photo style has changed so much)

THE SAYING GOES, “THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE”, WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOKS?

Lord of the Rings, 100%. But you already knew that 😜 also hellloooo Aragorn. Another one would be A Series of Unfortunate Events, which has been amazingly adapted on Netflix and is far superior. Want to read a very salty review? Check out my review of The End here.

  1. I own the LOTR trilogy too but I can’t seem to read it either!!! I think the writing just isn’t my style but the movies are to die for especially aragorn and legolas ahhhh :,)) Also I hate Snape as well but I think he’s still one of the most complex characters I’ve read about.

    1. LoTR is tricky because the books are so old now and the writing style isn’t what’s current so I think it makes them difficult reads. I couldn’t do it. Also the way The Two Towers was laid out it was SO boring. And I agree with you about Snale, he is very complex.

  2. I agree about Children of Blood and Bone! The only thing I didn’t like was the romance, and I feel like her writing is only going to keep getting better.
Are you referring to when Tomi called out another author for using her title? Unless there’s something else going on. Because for mez it won’t keep me from reading the book for a few reasons.
She apologized and worked it out with the author, so she clearly knows she was in the wrong. In the world of mistakes, this one wasn’t too bad, and we’ve all had those instances where we’ve assumed something only for it to be wrong.
This is one of those instances where what happened to the author doesn’t affect how I view the book (usually the author has to do something really bad for me to ban it. Like Matt De La Pena’s sexual assault situation 🙄😒).

    1. Yesss Matt de la Pena is out in my eyes, I have no qualms about it either ! I agree about Tomi though, odds are it won’t end up affecting me and I’ll continue with her books because I did really enjoy it! Although, I am sad it keeps getting pushed back 😑 now it won’t be out until December!

      1. I saw that! I hope it’s worth the wait. Tomi seems pretty dedicated to making it good, which I guess is a positive sign? But not good for my reader heart 😂

  3. I liked the Wonder Woman DC Icons book, but MAN was Batman: Nightwalker bad. Do not blame you from jumping out. As for LOTR, I’ve read that entire series twice and everytime I finished I couldn’t really remember what actually happened. Those books just did not stick with me!

  4. Definitely agree with you there about Manon and Dorian! I also really didn’t like Elide and Lorcan. And I read the first in the Shadowhunter series and thought it was all right, but I couldn’t get into the second one at all and I gave up in the end.

      1. Agreed! I feel like I would like them a whole lot more if I had. Maybe this time will be different. I really love huge books and there’s SO many books in the series. So I’m trying super hard. 🤞🏻

    1. Yeah it was pretty big news about Pena, I think a lot of people decided not to read Superman because of it 😬 I’m glad you agree with me on some things! I haven’t really gotten any hate for my answers yet which surprises me 😂
