Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites!

Hey Hi Hello! Did you miss me? Did you even notice I took a break from my blog? πŸ˜‚ I haven’t posted since Tuesday, and it wasn’t entirely because I didn’t want to or really needed a “break” but because I was SO busy between work and after work functions I simply didn’t have time since I hadn’t prepared any posts ahead of time. I hope to rectify that this weekend! Anyways..

It’s time for Friday Favorites hosted by the lovely Kibby over at Something of the Book! Head to her page for the rules and prompts! This is a weekly meme hosted every Friday where you can show off your favorites (or least favorites) based on her weekly prompts.

This weeks prompt is favorite Magic Systems!

In no particular order:

Grisha Trilogy

I loved the magic system in the Grisha series (mostly the trilogy but there was some of it also present in the Six of Crows duology). Everyone had a place, and everyone had an order that they belonged to such as the Corporalki, Etherealki, and Materialki. Each of these orders also has specialized sub orders.

Harry Potter

Obviously I had to include Harry Potter in a list about MAGIC! The magic system in Harry Potter is simple, it’s just magic. Young witches and wizards running around with wands, casting spells, and causing mayhem.

Furyborn

Much like the Grisha trilogy the magic system in Furyborn has different orders (I think?) but I know there is a Sun Queen and a Blood Queen and they can control different elements of the world like the Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water.

Wicked Saints

THIS BOOK THOUGH. READ IT. SERIOUSLY GO READ IT. I loved everything about Wicked Saints but one of the most interesting aspects of this story was the magic system! I loved that Nadya had the ability to not only talk to one god, but the ENTIRE pantheon. They granted her prayers and she was able to navigate the world because of it. I NEED MORE INFORMATION ON THIS MAGIC.

Strange the Dreamer

Can you classify this one as having a magic system? I don’t really know. It’s more, the Godspawn have magical abilities because they descend from the Gods?? I’m still going to count it because this is my list and I want Strange the Dreamer in EVERY POST OKAY. The Godspawn have these awesome magical abilities like Sarai can infiltrate your dreams, Minya can control ghosts, Ruby can control fire, you get the idea!

I actually really love books with intricate and unique magic systems! Fantasy is my favorite genre so I read about a LOT of different types of magic.

  1. Oooh solid list! I love the grishaverse. The fandom was who got me into Leigh Bardugo’s books. I haven’t read KoS yet because that means I have to wait longer for the sequel, so I’ve been putting it off. Ahhh. Excellent list!

    1. Furyborn is definitely one of those books that isn’t for everyone. It actually took me a while to get really into it. I read about half of it and then took a 3 week break before picking it back up and then I absolutely devoured it and can’t get enough!
