Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites!

It’s time for Friday Favorites hosted by the lovely Kibby over at Something of the Book! Head to her page for the rules and prompts! This is a weekly meme hosted every Friday where you can show off your favorites (or least favorites) based on her weekly prompts.

This weeks prompt is favorite movie or TV adaptation!

So funny thing about this prompt, I actually have a very hard time separating books from movies / TV shows. I just can’t do it. I can appreciate them for being their own work of art, but I struggle so much with not comparing them.

In no particular order:

Harry Potter

Okay I will admit, the Harry Potter series is actually not as good as it could have been. I hope they will do a remake at some point! They just made some of the dialogue so cheesy and just, the books weren’t like that 😭 but I do still love putting them on and binge watching! The books will always be my home though.

Lord of the Rings

To me this is indisputable, the Lord of the Rings movies are 100 x better than the books 🤷‍♀️ fight me. The books are just so old now, which if fine of course, but they just are not for me. I tried, I really did. I actually enjoyed The Fellowship of the Ring, but The Two Towers just killed this series for me. It was so incredibly different from the movie and was just SO SLOW. Movies all the way.

The 100

Okay I’m going to admit this, I’ve never actually read the books! A girl I worked with at my last job watched the first 2 seasons and told me how good it was, so I gave it a try and I’ve been HOOKED ever since. Seriously. So good. I don’t know if I’ll ever read the books, I feel like I enjoy the show so much I don’t want to taint that image with the books potentially being better. Or gosh if they were bad! Since I don’t have the books or any merch for the show, here is a photo of my heart, Bellarke 😍

I just want you all to know I fell down a serious Bellarke rabbit hole and returned to this post after about 35 minutes of looking at photos of them and just UGH I love them

The Hunger Games

I loved these movies! Which is actually surprising to me because I also loved the books! Maybe they were just so well done it didn’t matter to me? I don’t know, I feel like my feelings towards being able to separate a book from a movie is a case by case situation 😂 one thing that bothered me about The Hunger Games movies though is the fact that Peeta barely got a scratch on his leg!

Game of Thrones

My boyfriend and I actually just started watching Game of Thrones 2 weeks ago! We’re halfway through Season 3 and holy cats is it amazing! I tried to read the books a couple years ago but couldn’t even get through the prologue. I might try to read them again but maybe do it via audiobook. I really want to read them though because this series is so good!

Big Little Lies

This is another one that I find I truly enjoyed while also loving the book! This is strange to me because generally I don’t like fiction books (I prefer Fantasy) but this one really grabbed my attention. So I read the book and then immediately watched the show. While there are a lot of differences I think the production of Big Little Lies was so well done I couldn’t help but be sucked in to it. I’m nervous/excited to see where season 2 will take us!

  1. I recently watched the Hunger Games again and loved them! But I never did finish the book series! 🙈 Currently watching the last series of GoT! My highest recommendation would be A Discovery of Witches! Oh my god! It’s amazing!

    1. The books are so good! I actually wouldn’t mind rereading them because it’s been like 5 years since I picked them up! I’m halfway through Season 3 of Game of Thrones so still way behind but I really love it! I’ve heard lots of great things about A Discovery of Witches, I’ll definitely add it to my TBR!

  2. I’m not much of a movie person, but I have some adaptations I’ve LOVED! I think Vampire Academy and The DUFF were fantastic! (Even though I know most people didn’t love them.) And Crazy Rich Asians was one of the best adaptations I’ve ever seen!

  3. The LOTR movies are the only reason I was ever able to read those books. It may or may not help that when I read the books I can picture the movie version of the characters and that makes things much more pleasant (I’m in a constant state of heart eyes over Aragorn)
