REVIEW:

I. Loved. This. Book.

I am so sad I didn’t read it sooner! (although I read this over a month ago and am only just now writing my review lol oops but I wish I had read it years ago). I must admit, I was nervous to pick this series up. It is fairly hyped up, especially with the recent publication of Escaping From Houdini so I didn’t want that to affect how I felt about the story. I’m glad I gave it a chance though because it was so good! I’m also not usually one to pick up a historical fiction, especially one that doesn’t have a major fantasy element, but here I am still loving this story.

Stalking Jack the Ripper is (pretty obviously) a retelling of the Jack the Ripper case! We follow Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell as they try to find and solve the mystery of who IS Jack the Ripper?? I loved Kerri’s take on this well known story, I thought it was very well thought out and was incredibly intriguing while also kind of creepy! I read this as part of my October TBR because I knew it would be a spooky read!

The characters are honestly the best part of this story. Audrey Rose is a wonderful person and I love hearing the story from her point of view, that of a woman in the 1800’s that just wants to perform autopsies and learn medicine! The strength and power behind that is just, WOW! She never lets anyone hold her back and I thought her character was incredibly empowering. Her counterpart is Thomas Cresswell, who I know people either love or hate. He is the type of character that brings you in with his wit and sarcasm or annoys the shit out of you basically πŸ˜‚ in the beginning I was a tiny bit annoyed with his attitude but honestly, there is so much more to him than what’s on the surface. So much more than what he lets on. I can’t wait to find out more about him and his past and who he really is.

I still can’t really say Historical Fiction is my go to but I’m starting to enjoy it more. Especially when you have memorable characters like the ones Kerri created! Which to me is good for a story like this because the world building is fairly minimal. The story created here though is wonderful, I was left guessing for a long time and enjoyed the twist very much! I was still creeped out right up to the very end!
